Why You Should Travel The World On A Motorcycle (Seriously!)

The idea of travelling the world on a motorcycle seems hopelessly exotic. You need to have been riding all your life and have massive experience to do it safely, right?

Well, not quite. In fact, using a motorcycle is probably one of the easiest ways to get around.

When you go to other parts of the world, you quickly see the popularity of bikes and mopeds. Practically everyone owns one, and they buzz up and down the streets all day long. When you go to southeast Asia, you see that people essentially use them as their cars, transporting everything you could imagine, from chickens to televisions. So, as a tourist travelling light, you should be fine!

So why should you put on your motorcycle pants and tour around the globe on a motorcycle? Let’s take a look.

You’ll Fit Right In

Touring on a motorcycle might sound a little exotic. But it is actually way more common than you might think. In some countries, everyone is doing it, allowing you to blend in with the crowd. What’s more when you ride your bike, you can wear a full-face motorcycle helmet, obscuring your identity. Nobody will know that you’re from another part of the world.

You Can Meet New People More Easily

Touring around on a motorcycle lets you meet new people in a way that’s just not possible if you travel by car. You can get much closer to the action and really feel the Earth beneath you as you travel.

You Can Weave In And Out Of Traffic

Nobody wants to get stuck in a traffic jam on a long road trip, but they’re a lot more common than you might think, especially in rapidly-developing countries with poor road networks.

But when you ride a motorcycle, traffic isn’t such a massive problem. In fact, riding a bike allows you to whip in and out of queues, letting you get to the more enjoyable parts of your journey faster.

Let’s say that you find somewhere you want to park up. Doing that with a conventional car would sometimes be a challenge, especially if you’re in a “no stopping” area. But with a motorbike, you have way more options.

You Can Tackle More Rugged Terrain

Cars have a nasty habit of getting stuck when you take them off road because of their weight and slick tires. But, with motorbikes, you have more options. If you know you’re going to be going off the beaten track, you can fit your bike with knobby off-road tyres, similar to what they use in motocross. These dig into the ground when you accelerate, giving you more traction as you move forward.

In a sticky situation, you can also quite easily extract your bike from the mud using your own strength. That’s not often possible with a car.

Travelling the world on a motorcycle ultimately gives you more freedom than doing it in a car. And, so, if you’re an adventurous type, you’ll love the experience.
