DIY Fabric Softener

Well, I’m trying my hand at homemade fabric softener. Mostly because I realized we are out of dryer sheets and I can’t stomach paying $5 for downy unstoppables which is my favorite. I found lots of tips for DIY techniques but came across this one on Pinterest awhile ago. I’ll let you know how it turns out. It smells decent and seems to have the same consistency as downy liquid but only time will tell.

Here’s what you need:
Container (I splurged but you can use a pop bottle or milk jug)
Conditioner in your choice of scent
White vinegar
Water

Directions:
Empty the conditioner into the container
Add 3 parts vinegar to 1 part water until full

I added one more bottle of conditioner

To use it, just pour about 1/4 cup into the load. The vinegar is said to lock in color and the smell is promised to be gone too. I’m looking forward to trying it out and really scrutinizing it. I’ve heard it can even save a shrunken sweater!

Total cost
Vinegar $2.62
Conditioner .86 cents per bottle (there’s often coupons making these FREE)
Container $2.97 (free if you repurpose)

Yield 1 gallon
