Go (Back) To College
The first thing that we are going to recommend is that you go back to college if you have already been, and start attending now if you haven’t. The reason for this is because it looks good on your resume when you are applying for jobs. It shows that you are dedicated to doing the thing that you are applying for, so much so that you spent years learning about it. There is nothing that an employer loves more than someone who is hard working. If you have already been to college and you are now looking at going back, this usually impresses employers further. Going back as a mature student isn’t always easy, but if it’s what you need to do to reach your goals, it’s important to do.
Gain Relevant Experience
Another thing that you need to do is gain relevant experience. Employers like knowing that you have done the same thing before because it means that you will need less help in your role that you will be taking up with the business. As such, the more relevant work experience that you can get under the belt, the better position you are going to be in when you apply for the job of your dreams.
An example of this would be if you are straight out of college and you want to be a teacher, you could look at joining the Teach for America program to get experience in teaching. Maybe later down the line you can move onto other things, or stay where you are, but you have the experience which gives you options.
Network
Finally, you need to network. If socializing isn’t your thing, then for the sake of your career you need to make it your thing. You want to make as many connections as you can, ensuring that they are as high up in the industry as possible. It is all about who you know, so make sure that you know the right people.
