Fishing: the oldest date of all time

How to-5

Dating can be tiresome if you do the same old thing, all the time. If you’re looking for cheap date ideas that aren’t the same old same old, you’ve come to the right place!

My husband and I have been married for almost 5 years now, but we still enjoy going out together. We aren’t really nature types, so this date was a bit of a stretch…

We went fishing!

Bryan had been fishing growing up with his father and knew the basics. I’d learned from school some fishing basics thanks to the “Hooked on fishing not on drugs” DARE campaign years ago. Dating myself again…

But I must admit, neither of us had really caught anything before.

Bryan obviously put that shameful truth to rest, wrangling in a lively catfish! I honestly just noticed his shirt and how funny this photo actually is, but I’m including it anyways!

We borrowed poles to use, but if you buy a set and some tackle at Walmart, you’re looking at under $50 for the both of you and everything is reusable. Depending where you fish, you may need a fishing license as well. We fished on privately owned land 🙂

Also, make sure you’re prepared. Pack a lunch and some extra drinks. Be prepared to just relax. If you want to be a good fishermen, I guess you don’t talk. But if you’re just there for the company, chat away! You could have the place to yourselves just to enjoy each other’s company and the nature all around. You sit right on the bank or go all fancy with camp chairs or a blanket.

Oh, and pack some gloves and needle nose pliers! You just might catch a catfish. Those guys are nasty little suckers!

Have you ever been fishing? What’d you catch? (Please don’t make me feel bad for catching a little guy lol!)
