You can never underestimate the effects of loneliness, even in a time where you can connect to anyone instantly. Despite instant messaging, it can feel like you never really make a connection, whether with friends or strangers. For introverts, this can be even more difficult, as they feel pressure to make small talk, or believe no one would want to talk to them as they are not interesting enough. This makes it difficult to meet people, make new friends and find a partner and get out of a lonely hole. So what can introverts do?
Use Hobby Platforms
No matter who you are, you have a hobby. This might be a traditional hobby, such as video games or exercise, but it could also be something niche, like using resin pour to create bizarre art that predicts an underwater future. Whatever, you do you.
The point is that there is bound to be someone out there who shares these interests, you just need to know where to find them. Online hobby platforms and groups on sites like Facebook and Reddit can put you in immediate contact with these people. Discovering these communities will not only prove that you’re not alone, but it will also give you the chance to connect with others and maybe start building long-lasting relationships.
Roll the Dice
Sometimes, though, you need to take risks, and there is no better way to do this than to try something that you never thought was for you. This could be online dating on apps like Tinder or Bumble, whereas original chat lines can put you in touch with real people to chat the night away.
You’ll never know who’s worth it if you don’t take these chances and roll the dice. Of course, there are bound to be a few misses here and there, but that’s all part of the experience. If you only ever spend time looking in your immediate circle, you’ll never be able to broaden your horizons and meet people that could change your life for the better.
Push Yourself Out of Your Comfort Zone
People love their comfort zone for a reason. It’s cozy; it’s familiar; it’s the place you can go (and stay) to ignore all the stress and struggles of the world. But, staying in your comfort zone forever won’t help you grow, so it’s always beneficial to step out every once in a while.
As an introvert, trying new things is scary, but it’s the same for extroverts, too. The difference is that they relish the fear. If you’re struggling to put yourself out there and do something completely different, ask a friend to help out, as you’ll feel more confident with them by your side. Just make sure you don’t’ stay glued to them all day.
Getting Out There
While social media and online interactions can remove the authenticity of proper conversations, these can help push introverts to meet new people. Everyone deals with a degree of anxiety when putting themselves out there, so understanding you are not alone can do wonders for your approach. Whether you look for like-minded people or take a chance on something that has worked for others, you might discover that there are plenty of people out there for you to connect with.
