This is why I dig through boxes at Goodwill

I’d love to introduce you to my favorite home appliance…

My record player.

It was actually a Christmas gift from my parents last year. My favorite gift ever. Period. The best.

I love listening to records over the radio or iTunes or CDs because the sound from a record is just… different. I’m not an audiophile or an expert by any stretch of the word, but there just seems to be so much more warmth in the sound of Carole King’s voice singing I Feel The Earth Move than when I hear it on the radio. Maybe it’s just me.

Maybe it’s not the sound. Maybe it’s the colorful artwork on the album cover. It’s just so fun and colorful. I feel like if I ever needed to hang something on a bare space on the wall, I could snag any one of my records, tape it up and it’d look decent. Not saying that I actually will do that. But you never know.

Records are what keep me coming back to the thrift store near my house. Their collectibles, clothing, furniture and knick knacks may be picked over and over over-priced but I can always find a 99 cent record to add to the collection. I never go in with a band or album in mind. I don’t even have a wish list. I just dig and see what I find. Anything eye catching, I’ll pull out and look over. If I can recognize the artist name or one song, I’ll buy it and give it a spin. Literally 😉

My collection includes Asia, Perry Como, Chicago, Journey, The Supremes, The Carpenters and a stack of others. A bit eclectic of a mix, but I love it. I love the tactile nature of listening to a record. It’s more than just hitting “play.” Not with having to align a needle just right.

What are you willing to dig for at the thrift store?

I love this! I need shopping buddies like you in my neck of the woods. I am a total book nerds but find that book stores are too expensive, so I hit the racks at Goodwill a few times a month and always score at least one good read or two.

Oh my word… I can’t even count how many cool books I’ve found at thrift stores! I’ve snagged some great deals too.
