JR’s General Store ~ Bainbridge Ohio

I love visiting Amish country. Truth be told, every time we visit my parents in southern Ohio, we have to take a quick road trip over to Bainbridge Ohio. It’s only a short trek to our favorite places.

One of our absolute favorites ever since I was little is JRs General Store in Bainbridge Ohio. It’s a typical family run store. There are rows of baking supplies with hand written signs.

There’s a row full of classic and bulk size candies. I love the peppermint a in winter. My husband loves the chocolate covered espresso beans.

In one corner there are shelves and shelves of cookbooks and kitchen gadgets. But not the kind of gadgets that are fads. These are classics. Like meat grinders, pasta machines and cookie cutters.

If you visit at lunch time you can get a made to order sandwich. There are patio chairs outside that are for sale, but often occupied with folks eating a quick lunch.

I always stop at JRs General Store for fresh produce. What they have in stock varies with the season and I often find new vegetables to try. The prices are often very affordable. Bonus points for supporting local farmers.

This trip I spent just under $12 and got:

  • 1 Candy onion
  • 3 zucchini
  • 1 heirloom tomatoe
  • 1 pint blueberries
  • 2 green peppers
  • 1 bag of chocolate covered espresso beans
  • 1 eggplant

I especially look forward to trying the onion. I’ve never even seen a candy onion before. I plan to grill it and top a burger with it.  Vegetables from JRs General Store | Because Im Cheap

The staff at JRs are always very friendly and helpful too. If you’re in the area, make a day of it. You can also visit a few other Amish businesses in the area. Or drive another 30 minutes to craft and antiques hub, Lucasville.
Have you ever shopped at a General Store? If so, where? I’d love to visit more!
