5 Ways To Save Money Every Day

Everyday life can be expensive, we all know that. It’s so easy to just swipe our debit or credit cards and not keep track of spending. Or to opt for convenience over frugality. Now I’m not saying you have to go and pinch every penny, but below are 5 ways you can easily save on everyday essentials.

  1. Breakfast – Maybe it’s the best part of waking up. I’m not sure. But when you treat yourself to breakfast, it’s a nice pick me up. You won’t have the mid morning hangry pains and you have more energy to plow through the morning routine. It’s the most important meal of the day too. Or so I’ve heard. So therefore, it’s an essential. To save, cook for yourself at home. You can easily prepare breakfast burritos ahead of time and store them in the fridge until you’re ready for them. Just microwave for a few and you’ll be good to go. Or if that’s too much for you, a bag of bagels will run you about $2 at Walmart or ALDI. Way cheaper that buying at a coffee shop on the way to work.
  2. Make Your Own Cup O Joe – This goes right along with #1. If you’re paying $4-$6 for a barista catered version of coffee, it might be time to try your hand at crafting your own caffeine drinks. A box of Kcups run $3.59 at ALDI (that’s about 30 cents a cup). I get real fancy and froth my own milk then pour in the coffee from the Keurig. Check my Instagram if you don’t believe it doesn’t look fancy for under 50 cents.
  3. Say No To Impulse Buys. My mom taught me a great lesson: wait for 48 hours before deciding to buy something. If you still feel like you need the item in a few days, then get it. Otherwise, forget it. Impulse buys are why the checkout line of every single store is jam packed with goodies. They know people won’t think about purchases there.
  4. Pack A Lunch. There are so many different options available these days. You definitely don’t have to go with the pb&j of old. A good packed lunch can cost about $3-$5, be more filling to fast food and it’s ready when you are (which also saves gas and time!).
  5. Evaluate Your Emotions. Think about why you feel the urge to super size that combo or why you need those flats in every color. Remove the emotion from the scenario and focus on the need. Sure, get that one pair of black flats for your work attire, but you don’t really need them in every color known to man.

I always take a thermos of water with me in the car. I also keep a stash of dried fruit and peanut butter crackers in my car for when hunger strikes. Saves a lot of money that I can set aside for a trip! Makes me feel smart too!!

I’m a hopeless impulse buyer. Since I know my lack of fortitude, I try to put limits on it. For example, I allow myself one impulse per shopping trip, and then I make sure I’m only shopping once per paycheck. With a little planning I can keep those impulses to a minimum, but still enjoy trying that HOT NEW CANDY, lol.
